Time-Efficient & Cost-Effective

We aim to deliver a best-in-class service, saving you more time and money on wind farm corrosion repairs and protection

In harsh offshore environments, corrosion is a constant risk to the structural integrity of substations, foundations and turbine tower segments. This necessitates proper offshore wind farm protection

To maximise their lifespan, you need the best corrosion prevention, protection and damage repair technology, carried out by experts who understand the unique challenges faced during offshore assignments.

CWind has extensive experience in undertaking corrosion protection projects at offshore wind farms in the UK and across Europe. To date we have completed 16 corrosion protection projects across 12 offshore wind farms and most recently we successfully completed a programme of painting/repair work at Butendiek offshore wind farm.

We have also worked recently on similar projects at Nordsee Ost, Baltic 2, Greater Gabbard, Lincolnshire, Sheringham Shoal, West of Duddon Sands, Westermost Rough offshore wind farms and more.

Our Key Capabilities:

  • Corrosion repair & protection for inside, topside, splash zone & subsea areas
  • Thorough inspections, analysis, reporting & follow-up
  • Cathodic protection
  • Materials selection, procurement & transportation to site
  • Surface preparation
  • Blasting, painting & spray applications
  • Rigging, lifting & rope access

“Protecting paint work offshore is a complex task, conditions have to be assessed and maintained to ensure protection is comprehensive once the job is completed. CWind was able to demonstrate its capability to deliver safely to our exacting standards for this preventative work and the ability to combine all elements of the task in one project was a clear advantage to us.”

Gwynt Y Môr Case Study:

Delivering Excellence & Results

Relentless efficiency and optimisations in offshore wind have helped drive the levelised cost of electricity down, but occasionally these changes introduce additional challenges. One result of these reductions is the move away from external “J” tubes to routing cables into the transition piece through aperture holes cut into the primary steel.

Whilst this allows considerable CAPEX savings during construction, it introduces a leak path from the typically uncoated interior of the monopole to the wider ocean, allowing corrosion to occur. This reduces the safe lifespan of the structure considerably. We work with our clients to deliver targeted solutions to these issues.

At Gwynt Y Môr (GYM) offshore wind farm, a number of the cable entry sealing systems had been leaking, resulting in fluctuating water levels inside the monopoles, which compromised the internal corrosion protection systems. A retrofit internal cathodic protection system was required to address these problems and CWind was chosen to supply and install Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) systems in the three assets affected by this issue.

With our ability to bring extensive resource to the project, supplying the hardware, software, equipment and experienced personnel, the project was a success!

The work carried out by our highly-trained teams saved any further degradation to the primary steel structure, allowing generation to continue. This also meant the design life was maintained, as was the possibility of further life extension should this be in the commercial interests of the client.

The importance of long-lasting cathodic protection, and a trustworthy company to carry out this preventative measure, cannot be understated, and will continue to prove valuable long after installation works are complete.
